# About magnanimo.us

A small, independent guide to generosity, built to be useful, honest about its sources, and free of ads.

Updated October 2026

## What this site is

Magnanimous (magnanimo.us) is a free, independent guide to generosity — giving money well, sharing food, everyday kindness, and the older idea of magnanimity. It's written for ordinary people in the United States who want to do some good and would like the facts straight before they do.

The site currently has 20 in-depth guides across four sections, 2 entries in our daily series [Today's Kindness](https://magnanimo.us/daily/), and cites 134 distinct source URLs from 92 publishers. Every guide was last reviewed in October 2026.

## Who writes it: The Magnanimous Editors

Pages on this site are bylined to **The Magnanimous Editors**, the small allthingsN editorial team that researches, writes and maintains magnanimo.us. We draft with the help of AI research and writing tools, and every page is checked against its sources before it is published: each number, date, quote and study finding must match a page we actually opened, and every source link is tested before publication and re-checked afterwards with an automated link checker. We don't accept payment from charities or companies to appear in, or be left out of, anything we publish.

## How Today's Kindness is made and dated

[Today's Kindness](https://magnanimo.us/daily/) publishes one entry each day at midnight Pacific time: a true, documented story or research finding about generosity, plus one concrete act you can do that day. Entries are written and fact-checked ahead of time and scheduled; each shows the date it was published, and an entry never appears on the site, in the [RSS feed](https://magnanimo.us/feed.xml) or in our machine-readable indexes before that date. If we correct an entry after publication, we fix it in place.

## Editorial standards

- **Every number has a link.** Statistics, dates, dollar figures and study findings are linked inline to the original source and repeated in each page's Sources list. If we can't find a source, the claim doesn't run.
- **Primary sources first.** We prefer the IRS over a blog about the IRS, the original study over a write-up of it, and the food bank's own list over a listicle.
- **No invented examples.** Stories about real people and events are drawn from documented accounts and cited. Where a story is disputed, we say so.
- **No "best charity" lists of our own.** We explain how to evaluate organizations and point to independent evaluators such as Charity Navigator, Candid and GiveWell, attributing any rating to the group that issued it.
- **Not advice.** Pages about taxes, tips and workplace programs are general information. Your situation may differ; confirm with IRS.gov, your employer or a professional.
- **Dated and maintained.** Each guide shows when it was updated and each daily entry when it was published. Data with a reporting year says which year it covers.
- **Readable by people and machines.** Every page has a plain Markdown version (add index.md to the page address), and the site publishes [llms.txt](https://magnanimo.us/llms.txt), an [RSS feed](https://magnanimo.us/feed.xml) and a [JSON index](https://magnanimo.us/api/content.json) so search engines and AI assistants can cite the original page accurately.

## Who's behind it

Magnanimous is part of the [allthingsN network](https://allthingsn.com/), a small studio that publishes free apps, tools and guides. Where a sister product is genuinely useful for the task a guide describes — for example, [PantryRx](https://pantryrx.ai/) for planning meals you cook for others, or the free [Servicehours volunteer log](https://allthingsn.com/apps/servicehours/) — we link to it and say what it is. Those links are never paid placements for outside companies, and no charity pays to appear on this site.

## Corrections

If something is wrong, out of date, or a link has rotted, we want to know: email [support@allthingsn.com](mailto:support@allthingsn.com). Corrections are made in place and the page's updated date changes. See [sources and methodology](https://magnanimo.us/sources/) for the full list of what we cite.
